View: Ladies Victorian Riding Hat. Lynn takes the guesswork out of hat making. The pattern instructions are clear, thorough, and well illustrated. A friend with little sewing and no hat making experience borrowed the pattern and produced a very good looking hat on her first try. I’ve used this pattern several times and still love it. If possible I do recommend you obtain enough materials to make two hats. Although the instructions are clear and easy to follow there’s a reason millinery is called an ‘art.’ The hat pictured was my first attempt with the pattern and I did not mull the hat as I was using heavy cotton velvet. I mulled my 2nd hat and it is well worth the extra time & effort for the results. Millinery needles (including a curved one) are very helpful to have, although not absolutely necessary. Start with dark, matte fabrics if possible because the shinier the fabric the more noticeable the flaws. Lynn’s website has additional tutorials and fabulous pictures, it’s a great resource (and you can buy more hat patterns!)
