Overall this pattern was fantastic. This was my first time ever making a corset & the step-by-step instructions were very clear & easy to understand. The instructions really help you go through the process one step at a time & she explains exactly what you need to do. It took me a long time to make, but I would definitely recommend this pattern for a first-time corset project.
However, I made the mistake of not actually following the instructions to leaving a 2 inch gap in the back. I’m very small & I figured the 2 inch gap was too big for my small frame. I figured that instruction was probably intended for larger ladies, so I just made a 1 inch gap. Well, after wearing the corset twice it stretched out & now I have the laces tightened all the way as tight as they can go. I have a feeling it will end up stretching even more & end up being too big for me. So you really do need that 2 inch gap in the back! Once you wear the corset a couple times it will stretch out & you’ll need to tighten the laces up more.
Also, I have a small bust (about 33 inches at the fullest part) & I couldn’t quite figure out how to adjust the pattern accordingly. I still needed to have enough fabric at the bust section to sew all the seams & attach the busk & boning & the laces. So I wasn’t really able to make the bust as small as it needed to be. Maybe there is a trick a more experienced corset maker would have known. But the bust on mine is still just a little too big. So perhaps this isn’t the best pattern for small-chested ladies?
