This is a wonderful pattern. I made the stand-up collar style with the shaped hem. I made this as a winter coat and added both a lining and interlining. The pattern does not include instructions for lining or separate pattern pieces for lining. The coat goes together beautifully. It’s comfortable and gorgeous and looks like it came right out of the Deco era.

The pattern went together like a dream and the instructions were quite clear. As indicated in the pattern, coat-style interfacing is strongly recommended and will vastly affect your results. Also, I cannot emphasize enough the need to do a mockup first. While the coat is not fitted in the strictest sense, proportions matter greatly in this era. When I made a smallish size, I took 4″ out of the side seams as my mockup made it clear that I was going to be swimming in the vastly oversized coat. It was also about 10″ too long.

The only problem that I had was that the sleeve lining runs a little short when doing the turned cuff. I made up this coat in a vintage silk brocade fabric and used a heavy satin lining. It took quite a bit of care with the interfacing to balance these varied fabric weights.

The coat looks and feels just like the real thing. Some changes that I made to the pattern to give it an even more vintage look and feel: added piping for hem/CF seams, created handmade satin covered shoulder pads to match the lining & applied vintage buttons.

The cloche was made up in cotton velvet to match the coat’s collar and cuffs. IMHO, I’d cut the seams wider next time for better control of squirrelly fabric. The cloche goes together fabulously well & can be adjusted a little for size later in the assembly process when applying the petersham. All in all, about 2 evenings for a lovely chapeau including trimmings.
