Light-up Foam Bracer Workshop

In this workshop students will learn the basics techniques for making EVA foam armor and simple Cosplay lights. Students will trace, cut, glue, and seal EVA foam and then add a parallel circuit of LEDs to make the bracer light up. Instruction will cover all the steps for making finished foam armor, and an introduction to LED lights. Finishing and painting of the bracers will need to be done at home after the workshop
This workshop uses small amounts of contact cement. An N95 mask and nitrile gloves will be provided for each student.

Student Brings :
Note taking materials, craft scissors for cutting paper, pencil or pen.
Sewing tracing paper and tracing wheel (optional)
acrylic paint (optional)
Instructor Provides :
Cosplay foam (2mm and 4mm), contact cement and applicators, scissors, hobby knives, markers, cutting mats, foam sealer, battery holders, batteries, LEDs, conductive tape, adhesive felt, cording.
PPE – nitrile gloves, N95 masks
Heat guns for class use
Teacher Bio:
Sahrye Cohen is a cosplayer and fashion tech designer for Amped Atelier. She co-authored the DIY Electronics book, Make It, Wear It: Wearable Electronics for Makers, Crafters and Cosplayers. Sahrye teaches workshops in costuming and electronics and has taught at the Exploratorium, Maker Faire, and Dragon Con. She specializes in light-up costuming and interactive electronic couture using a combination of traditional and CNC fabrication techniques. Her work has been shown on the runway with MakeFashion in Calgary, Canada, and in Shenzhen, China, New York and San Francisco.
