Costumer's Care 4
Making Comfort Caps for Chemotherapy Patients
Saturday, June 26, 2004

It was another successful day—GBACG members and friends gathered to make chemotherapy caps for those dealing with the effects of cancer.

Charles Schwab & Company generously donated space at their 215 Fremont building for this year’s event. All of us wish to extend our thanks and sincere appreciation to Charles Schwab & Co. for their generosity and hospitality.

We had more than enough space for a large fabric cutting area, six sewing machines and a staging area where trims and finishings were applied to completed hats before they were tagged and bagged. Not only that, we were able to watch DVD movies on the two large drop down screens appropriate for this very large meeting room.

As usual, after all we are costumers and artists, trimming the hats was the highlight of the day. There were plenty of oohs and ahhs as penguin buttons, bunny buttons and such were applied to finished hats. Ribbon cockades and flowers festooned many others. Restraint even reigned as it was agreed that some of the hats needed no extra be-jeweling.

New for this years—we asked for pre-event donations of finished knitted and crocheted hats. The hats we received did not disappoint us. All in all it was a quite wonderful day and we made some 65+ hats. They are all donated to the San Francisco American Cancer Society to be given out for free to those in need.

Many, many thanks to all those who participated: Mercurio Ekaterin, Kathe Gust, Phil Gust, Deborah Robbins, Angela Elsey, Thayer Lund, Ruth Daughters, Janice Sellers, JoAnn Peterson, Tracy Kostiuk , Charlene Loen, Anne Merritt, Kathy Piersall , Nancy Lee Turcott, Colleen Lewis, Link Pak, Diane Leong, and Jim Bull.

You are all heroes!
