A well-dressed gathering of Sweethearts rowed around Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park enjoying the summer afternoon and the glow of being in love. The setting for our picnic is the summer of 1916, a time when many sweethearts said farewell before the fellows shipped out to Europe in World War I. After a pleasant row on the lake, we walked over to the Log Cabin Picnic Area near the lake and enjoyed a small town style summer picnic. Suzanne Ramsey and James Langdell entertained us with popular songs of the era. Captain Greg Greenwood maintained the Army Recruiting Table, urging all young men to come to the aid of their country. |
