Amid the potted palms, oriental carpets, black marbles walls and plush cushions of the The Compass Rose, we lounged with elegance and sophistcation. Noel Coward would have been pleased.

Christine James in a grande dame ensemble of teal velvet. The gown is a copy of a 1913 fashion plate. The Russian Toque hat is decorated with vintage feathers and beads. Keith Hearn and Sue Toorans. Sue is wearing her version of a gown designed by Erte. See Designs by Erte, Fashion Drawings & Illustrations from Harper's Bazaar, page 45. Erte's original design was for a winter garment; Sue's interpretation is in the autumnal shades of the Northern California hills in late summer.
Karen Tully in her creation of an elegant tea gown from the early twenties. Trystan L. Bass wears a soignee velvet tea gown from the 1930s.
