Literary Personae 

Autumn Adamme as Ophelia was silent, beautiful and doomed.

Trystan L. Bass (left) as Eustacia Vye. The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy, 1878.

Pat Canata as Fanny Assingham watched over everyone's behavior. The Golden Bowl by Henry James  (1904).

John Carey as the Comte de Valmont (Les Liasions Dangereux by Choderlos de Laclos, 1782) regarded the assembly with detached amusement.

Danine Cozzens' reading of American poet Amy Lowell's poem "Patterns" (1915) was a revelation. This poet was unknown to everyone in attendance, but the beauty of the poem made everyone eager for more.

Ellie Fraser as Helen of Troy had everyone in gales of laughter when she read Love's Thousand Ships by Condiment Dagliesh, 1994.

Christine and John James as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy displayed equal portions of Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen, 1813).

Sheri Jurnecka and Douglas Williams as June and Henry Miller (left). Sheri read a wild and explicit passage from Henry's banned novel The Tropic of Cancer, 1934.

Indra Lowenstein came as William S. Burroughs and read from his scandalous novel, Naked Lunch (1959).

Cheryl Melnick wore a gorgeous vintage ensemble as the elegant and intelligent Lady Laura Kennedy in Phineas Finn (1869) and Phineas Redux (1874) by Anthony Trollope.

Monique Motyl (left) as The White Queen of Narnia. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, 1950. The handsome rogue in the background is Jay Hartlove as Petruchio, The Taming of the Shew by William Shakespeare, 1590-1595. His lady love, Miss Denisen Fraser, attended as Kate and, you can be sure, gave Petruchio exactly what he deserved.

Sally Norton (in wool tweeds and walking shoes) was Alison Ingstrom in Lament for Lady Laird by Margot Arnold (1982). She read a passage describing a walk in the Scottish highlands.

Jan Price came as a member of the Beat Generation. She read "Poem No. 9" from Coney Island of the Mind by Lawrence Ferlingetti (1955).

Kevin Roche as Spaceman Spiff. The Calvin and Hobbs comic strip, 1994.

Shelly Monson as Christine de Pisan, an important French poet and philospher of the Middle Ages. Many of de Pisan's works urged that women be allowed to participate more fully in society.

Virginia Solomon as Petrach's beloved Laure de Noves, with whom he fell deeply in love, even though she did not return his affections. Virginia read one of Petrach's sonnets (14th c.) dedicated to Laure.

Karen Welss as Lydia Melford. The Expedition of Humphrey Clinker by Tobias Smollet, 1771. Karen read one of Lydia's letters from this epistolary novel.
