Afternoon Tea at the Ritz 18 December 1993 |

We donned our beyond-the-pale hats and oh-so-elegant afternoon tea gowns for period afternoon. We enjoyed tea and pastries and harp music in the Lobby Lounge. Several attendees arrived via the California Street Cable Car which stops right outside the hotel. To borrow a word from the period, the Tea was smashing. Set between 1905 and 1925, members of this sold-out gathering were attired from the entire range of dates. Our hostess, Denisen Fraser, wore a Gibson Girl jacket. Jwlhyfer de Winter's Garboesque Marcel wave hairdo was set off by her fur stole. Many of the attendees wore authentic vintage attire, which is always a delight to see up close in an intimate setting. The high ceilings, full length period portraits and large windows created a warm and elegant ambiance that was very much to our taste. |
