A Victorian Tea at the Garden Court
The Palace Hotel, San Francisco 15 August 1992
It is always a joy to go to an event where the setting is perfect. The Tea at the Palace was just such an event. We arrived a bit early at the Garden Court and were greeted by our gracious hostess, Denisen Fraser, and early birds, Sheri Jurnecka and her husband, Douglas Williams. Sheri looked stunning in a dark lavendar and black lace Edwardian tea frock. The conversation was lively as we greeted Pat Langdell, a later arrival. The other guests started to arrive and we went in for the delicate and beautifully served tea. Agnes Gawne charmed us all with her singing as we siped our elegant cups of Darjeeling, Jasmine, Earl Grey and other, more exotic teas. August is the height of the tourist season in San Francisco and the Garden Court was full. The other guests were intrigued by us but, very polite. Even the fellow who wished to videotape us asked first for our permission. He was then so discreet, we barely noticed his prescence. As always, Denisen Fraser was a gracious hostess. ~~ Jwlhyfer de Winter |
