We met at 11:30am at the Boathouse on Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. We hired rowboats and set out on the lake.  As we rowed past one another, boats would pause while one person read a poem by one of the Romantic poets.

At 2pm, we gathered in the little forest glade south of Huntington Falls for the first part of the competition. Participants recited and interpreted a work (poetry or prose) by a Romantic era author. We retired to the Chinese Pavilion for the Competition of Original Works in the style of (or inspired by) Keats, Shelley, Coleridge and Byron. Certificates were awarded to the winners.

One of the pleasures of the afternoon is sharing a picnic lunch --- in a rowboat. We tied our boats together near the waterfall and passed plates and bottles back and forth between the boats. It takes a little bit of practice and a little bit of balancing but, the delight in such a meal is partly in the sense of fun and the ever-present possiblity of a mishap (hopefully not with the wine).
