The Garden Court in the Sheraton Palace Hotel, San Francisco

The Greater Bay Area Costumer's Guild ushered in the holiday season with a Victorian tea in the Garden Court. The event was well-attended by costumers in tasteful and colorful dress reflecting the period of 1870-1910. The elegant dress (and undoubtedly impeccable manners) of our group attracted the attention of several busloads of tourists navigating the hotel lobby, as well as other tea patrons. We welcomed many first-time attendees to this regularly-held event. Everyone enjoyed the edibles and the ambiance.

A huge Christmas tree in the center of the Garden Court lent a festive holiday air, as did the accompanying harp music and some Victorian carols sung by the Rowlandson Consort (Agnes Gawnw, Danine Cozzens, James Langdell and Richard Kisling).

After the tea, several of us descended on the Sherlock Holmes bar on the top floor of the Holiday Inn, Union Square. Dustin Carsey (producer/director) of the Sherlock Holmes Theatre (on the twelfth floor of this same hotel) offered us a special group rate to attend their current production in costume. After a few rounds of drinks and a bit to eat, we were escorted to the theatre and saw a musical play, "Sherlock Holmes and the Red-Headed League" based on the story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It was acted with great energy by a cast of five players.

It was great fun and very silly. After the play we met the cast and crew and posed for pictures. We returned to the bar upstairs for a nightcap. It was the perfect end to a very enjoyable day.
