Stow Lake, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco

Our idyllic interlude on the beautiful and serene Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park was blessed with balmy weather and wonderful attendance (about 45 guests in lovely period attire). Everyone brought poetry to read. The actual competition contained eleven original pieces and six presentations.

Three years she grew in sun and shower,
Then Nature said, " A lovlier flower
On earth was never sown;
This Child I to myself will take;
She shall be mine, and I will make
A Lady of my own.

The floating clouds their state shall lend
To her; for her the willow bend;
Nor shall she fail to see
Even in the motions of the Storm
Grace that shall mold the Maiden's form
By silent sympathy.

~~William Wordsworth, Three Years She Grew (1799)
