Mad Hatter's Tea Party Picnic

Sunday, September 19th, 2010 -- 11am to 3pm
Red Morton Community Park, Redwood City, CA

The Mad Hatter and his friends cordially invite you for a tea party! We will toast all of our un-birthdays, play flamingo croquet, color pictures of our friends, and more. We hope that Alice, the March Hare, and other characters will join in on the fun! You may bring a story or a riddle to share with all, or choose something to read from our poetry collection. Chess and card games are always appropriate.

Costume: Come as any character related to any version of the beloved stories by Lewis Carroll. Can’t visualize yourself as a March Hare, White Queen, or Dodo? Come as a fan. Queen Victoria loved these tales! The two "Alice" books were published after 1860 and the author did not live to see the new century, so keep your historical costuming mid to late Victorian, 1860-1890. GBACG Costume Guidelines

Menu: We will provide iced tea, lemonade, hot water, tea bags and accompaniments. If you prefer your own special blend of tea, feel free to bring it. Rumor has it that cakes and some other tasty morsels appropriate for teatime will be attending! Our host will be happy to introduce us to them. If you have dear tasty treats you would like to share with the assembly, please bring them.

Practicalities: Bring your own blankets or small tables and chairs. The large tea and beverage tables will be provided. Bring your own elegant cups, plates and utensils. You don't want to be asked to "move down" when the clean cups run out! Although the park has tree-shaded knolls, you may want to consider parasols and hats, particularly if you plan to play croquet. Alcohol is not permitted in the park, so the March Hare will not be offering it.

Children: This is a child-friendly event. A children’s playground is also available in the park with the usual swings and climbers. Costumes are required for children, although just as for adults they do not have to be authentic reproductions!

Location & Parking: Red Morton Community Park, 1120 Roosevelt Ave., Redwood City, CA 94061
